A lot of people do not bother getting pet insurance for their dogs and end up spending a lot of money on veterinary bills later on or worst, not being able to give their dogs the right medical care. If you are one of those people who have uninsured dogs at home, now is the right time for you to start looking for the right pet insurance for your dogs. Don’t count on your dog always being healthy. You don’t know what the future will hold. As our pets age, they will need more medical care.
Choosing a Pet Insurance Policy for Your Dog
You really shouldn’t have any problems insuring your dog. Many pet insurance companies offer a variety of comprehensive plans for dogs. However, not all these companies offer affordable pet insurance for dogs so if you have limited funds, you should do a little bit of hunting for affordable pet insurance policies. Moreover, you should know what factors that may affect the cost of your pet’s insurance policy. The cost of your dog’s insurance plan can actually be impacted by your dog’s genetic makeup. Why is that? Pure breed dogs are more likely than mixed breed dogs to inherit genetic defects. These make them more expensive to insure. Genetically engineered “designer dogs†can also have some genetic defects that cause them to be more expensive to insure. Your pet’s insurance costs will also be raised by the fact that designer dogs will often require more medical attention than other dogs throughout their lives.
Aside from the hereditary or genetic make up of the dog, the age of the dog also affect the cost of the pet insurance for dogs. Believe it or not, insuring a puppy will cost more than a dog that is a couple of years old. Why does it work that way? Puppies are more expensive to insure because they are more likely to have accidents or become sick. It’s not a bad idea to insure your puppy, just be prepared to pay a little extra.
Are All Dogs Eligible For Insurance Coverage?
Unfortunately, not all dogs are eligible for insurance coverage. You will have a hard time finding pet insurance if your dog is more than 11 years old. Insurance companies are less likely to insure them because they tend to have more health issues at that age.

Watching your pet suffer is a terrible thing and as bad as having any family member suffer. Insurance just makes things easier in these circumtances.

My sister spent alot of money on her older dog to keep him healthy. But it was worth it because her dog was like a child to her. She did get insurance for her new puppy recently.
I think it was a smart move.
